Much of the terminology used in an ancient healing art like Thai Yoga Massage is known only to those specialising in this area. Detailed below are many of the common words associated with Thai Yoga Massage.

Acupressure:
The application of pressure or localized massage to specific sites on the body
Ayutthia:
The early capital of Thailand from 13th to the 18th century.
Buddhism:
A philosophy created by Siddhartha Gautama over 2500 years ago, where in one tries to reach a state of enlightenment. Siddhartha became known as the Buddha or one who has reached enlightenment.
Chakra:
A Hindu word to describe localised centres of vital energy in the body. There are seven major chakras said to exist along the length of the body and many minor chakras.
Ki/Chi:
Japanese/Chinese word for vital energy in the body.
Metta:
A Pali word meaning the Buddhist concept of loving-kindness
Nuad Borarn:
Thai ancient massage or just Thai massage.
Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art known as Nuad Bo-Rarn in Thailand. It is a wonderful combination of rhythmic acupressure and massage with gently, but firmly applied yoga stretches covering the whole of the body.
Pali:
An Indo-Aryan language used to write sacred Buddhist texts
Prana:
Sanskrit word meaning the breath of life or a life giving force.
Reiki:
The name, Reiki, can be translated as Universal(Rei) Life-force Energy(Ki). It is this energy that runs through all of us and when the energy flow is blocked or disrupted then dis-ease or illness can manifest. A Reiki treatment allows universal energy to flow into the body via the therapist, where it works not just on a physical level but on a mental emotional and spiritual level as well to restore balance and harmony. This allows the body to begin a healing process.
Sanskrit:
The ancient language of the Hindus
Tendai:
A Japanese school of Buddhism.
Yoga:
A Sanskrit word from the verb ‘yuj’, which means to yoke or unite. The aim of yoga is to reach a union with God or the universe, to experience being part of the whole.
